Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Mantytskiy on Wednesday urged everyone not to believe the opposition BNP's statement on the January 7 election claiming Moscow's involvement.
"It's misleading and false information… don't believe it," he said while replying to a question after meeting with Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at the latter's office.
The BNP had claimed that the Awami League had come to power thanks to “foreign powers,” specifically naming India, China and Russia.
The Russian ambassador said the choice had been made by the Bangladeshi people. “What kind of role Russia can play?” he asked.
"We don't interfere [in the] political affairs of any country, especially friendly country of your's, Bangladesh," he said.
