The West Bengal government of India has decided to issue medical visas to Bangladeshi patients within four days to get medical services easily.

This change has been made in the medical visa management of Bangladeshi patients since Friday.

Under the new system, hospitals in the state will be responsible for uploading verified documents on a dedicated West Bengal government website.

Based on these verified documents, the offices of the Indian High Commission or Deputy High Commissioner in Bangladesh will quickly issue a medical visa.

A meeting was recently held between two officials of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, a senior official of the Home and Information Technology Department of the Government of West Bengal and AHEI, an association of private hospitals in eastern India.

Rupak Barua, president of AHEI, told reporters that It was decided in this meeting that from now on, based on the patient’s request, the hospital concerned will first examine all the documents related to his treatment and consult with the doctor.

The patient’s “Visa Invitation Letter” or “VIL” is then uploaded by the hospital to a dedicated website, he said.

The website to be used in this process named “Yatri Suvidha Health Visa Process” has been developed by the Information Technology Department, Government of West Bengal, said the AHEI president.

He claims: “We expect that the medical visa, which previously took 45 to 50 days to obtain, will now be available in just two to four working days.”
