10 Myanmar students coming to study in Bangladesh

  • Sending-off reception organized in Yangon
  • This could strengthen Bangladesh-Myanmar ties

Ten Myanmar students have been awarded fully funded scholarships to study at the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh in computer science, environmental science, economics and public health.

The Bangladesh embassy in Yangon organized a sending-off reception Monday for them.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Myanmar Md Monwar Hossain congratulated them with flowers and handed over their Bangladeshi visas.

Ambassador recalled that the Asian University for Women, operating since 2008, currently has more than 1,300 students from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Senegal Sri Lanka, Syria, Timor Leste, Vietnam and Yemen enrolled in pre-university and undergraduate program.

He also proposed forming ‘Asian University for Women Alumni Association of Myanmar Students’ to further strengthen the ties between the students and the embassy.

The ambassador said: “The quality and atmosphere of higher education in Bangladesh is poised at a very high standard and one of the best in South Asia at this moment.”

He said: “The Myanmar students have been awarded with a unique opportunity to learn in their respective fields of interest and on completion of their study the students will be able to make a positive difference in their home countries to build a knowledge-based economy.” 

He also said that the students can play “a pivotal role” in strengthening the Bangladesh-Myanmar relationship using their intercultural relationship and experience gathered in Bangladesh.
