US delegation led by Uzra Zeya visits Rohingya camp

The high-profile delegation led by the US under secretary will interact with Rohingyas before returning to Dhaka

US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Uzra Zeya and US Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu visited a Rohingya camp in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday morning.

The US delegation led by Zeya arrived in Cox's Bazar at 9am on a special plane.

The delegation visited the UNHCR-run Rohingya Registration Centre at Ukhyia Balukhali Rohingya camp no 9 around 10:30am.

This high-profile US delegation will visit the nutrition centre and cultural memory centre there and interact with officials of almost all international organizations working in Cox's Bazar, apart from directly interacting with Rohingyas throughout the day.

In the afternoon, Zeya and Lu will return to Dhaka after discussions with the government's refugee relief and repatriation officials in Cox's Bazar.

They were accompanied by a 10-member delegation including US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas and Refugee Affairs Coordinator in South Asia MacKenzie Rowe on their visit to Cox's Bazar.
