Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday said a colonial mindset leads some people of Bangladesh to seek solutions from foreign diplomats.
"You can ask experts questions on any issue. Diplomats come here to improve bilateral relations," he said while speaking at an event titled 'DCAB talk' at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The event was organized by Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB). DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and General Secretary Imrul Kayes conducted the program.
The foreign minister hoped that diplomatic correspondents would not seek solutions to Bangladesh's internal issues from foreign diplomats.
He said when he was living in the US as a professor he was invited to talk on many issues. But when he was the diplomat of Bangladesh at the UN, they never asked internal questions of any country.
The foreign minister was the permanent representative of Bangladesh in the UN in New York before joining politics.
The minister highlighted the initiatives he has taken since becoming the foreign minister and said due to his economic as well as public diplomacy, Bangladesh can draw foreign investments despite global difficulties.
"We have changed our image also," he said, reiterating the government's determination to hold a free and fair election.
"We hope that we will be able to hold a free and fair election. It will be violence-free. But for that, all parties must be committed to remain violent free."
