United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and United Nations Sustainable Development Group Chair Amina J Mohammed is due to visit Bangladesh.

She is scheduled to speak at a seminar on “Road to Sustainable Development Goals Summit 2023” in Dhaka on Saturday, a senior official from the foreign ministry informed on Friday.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will also be present at the seminar as the chief guest.

According to the official from the foreign ministry, Amina J Mohammed will arrive on Saturday and depart from Dhaka on Monday.

During her visit, she plans to inspect a climate adaptation project site in the southern port city of Mongla.

She will also call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and meet the Speaker of Jatiya Sangshad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

Prior to her appointment at the UN, Amina served as Nigeria's environment minister, where she guided the country's efforts on climate action and the protection of the natural environment.

In 2012, she joined the United Nations as special adviser to the then secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, with responsibility for post-2015 development planning.

She led the process that resulted in the global agreement around the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” and the creation of the “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, as reported by her office.

Amina began her career designing schools and clinics in Nigeria. She subsequently served as an advocate focused on increasing access to education and other social services, before moving into the public sector.

She rose to the position of adviser to four successive presidents on poverty, public sector reform, and sustainable development.
