The Myanmar Army has not yet returned 11 weapons of Bangladesh snatched from Naikhongchhari border in 2012, Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Shakil Ahmed said on Tuesday.
“In 2012, 19 people, including BGB members, military and civilians, went missing at Naikhongchhari border. Among them, the body of Naik Mizanur Rahman of the BGB was returned after four days, but the Myanmar Army has not returned the 11 weapons of the BGB, although there have been many flag meetings, discussions have taken place at the domestic and foreign levels,” he said.
“But even after 10 years, the BGB has not got those weapons back,” said the BGB chief.
He was addressing a press conference held at the BGB Headquarters after the recently concluded “8th Senior Level Border Conference” between the BGB and Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP).
The five-day long conference which began in Naypyidaw of Myanmar on November 23, concluded with the signing of a Joint Records of Discussion (JRD) on November 27.
A Bangladesh delegation consisting of 10 senior officials of the BGB, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other organizations attended the conference, according to a press release. It was led by Major General Shakil Ahmed.
When asked whether there has been any discussion about Myanmar returning those weapons, he said: “There are many such incidents which are very old. I believe that a solution to these incidents will come. But things are not solved suddenly.”
The 8th border conference of BGP-BGB was held in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar after two years and 10 months, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the conference, various issues between the two countries were discussed.
Besides, the two sides agreed on 12 issues.
