Shipments of Russian wheat to Bangladesh amount to 460,000 tons as of Tuesday, with a 4.4-time increase from 105,000 tons a year earlier.
September 2022 saw a government-to-government contract between Russian and Bangladeshi government agencies for the supply of 500,000 tons of wheat, according to a press release by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh.
Of the amount, 217,000 tons have already been shipped, supplemented by 243,000 tons secured through private deals, totalling 460,000 tons.
According to the Russian Grain Union, from October 1 to October 23, Russia exported 4.13 million tons of wheat, which is 57% higher than in the same period last year.
October 2021 saw the overall wheat export of 2,637,000 tons.
On Friday, the Russian foreign ministry issued a statement indicating that Russia was ready to export about 30 million tons of grain, primarily wheat, by the end of 2022, and to increase deliveries up to 50 million tons in light of the rich harvest this year.
About 10.5 million tons of grain (77% wheat) have already been dispatched to Asia (62%) and Africa (33%).
Stable growth in Russian crop supplies – even against the backdrop of instability in the global food market fuelled by sanctions – demonstrates that Russia is committed to further cooperation with grain-importing countries, including Bangladesh, based on the principles of mutually beneficial partnership, read the press release.
