Bangladesh has expressed its concern over the internal conflict in Myanmar, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Sunday.
He was speaking at a press conference ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India.
Momen said: “We summoned their ambassador today (Sunday). We expressed our concerns.”
There is an internal conflict going on in Myanmar and because of that shells landed inside Bangladesh territory, he said:
The foreign minister said the envoy assured him that the shell landing incident was a mistake and there was no bad intention behind it. “They are not provoking us and it suddenly landed in our territory.”
The foreign minister added: “We have strengthened our position. We want to make sure that the tortured people do not enter our country again. We have alerted our border guards and security forces so that no one can enter.''
To answer if this incident will affect the Rohingya repatriation, he said: "I am hopeful. The program we have undertaken will not be hampered.”
