Md Al Amin, UNO of Bauphal, died of natural causes on June 11 while undergoing mid-career training in India

Some people are trying to say the death of a Bangladeshi civil servant in India was due to unnatural causes, and Dhaka is taking it as “harmful propaganda.”

In several stories, the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi is also quoted as saying this unfortunate death was due to unnatural causes.

“We reject such claims,” Shaban Mahmood, minister (press) at the High Commission, told Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.

Md Al Amin, the UNO of Bauphal, Patuakhali, died of natural causes while undergoing mid-career training at the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG) in Mussoorie, India, on June 11.

India has a long tradition of providing training to the people of Bangladesh.

Over 100,000 freedom fighters were trained in India in 1971.

Bangladeshi bureaucrats also regularly receive training from India.

Al Amin was part of the 61st batch of Bangladesh bureaucrats undergoing mid-career training for field officials from Bangladesh in Mussoorie, where Indian bureaucrats also get trained.

Nearly 2,200 Bangladesh bureaucrats have received training at the same institute in Mussoorie.

Apart from civil servants, judges, as well as military and law enforcement officials, also undergo capacity-building programs in India.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, India conducted training for health workers in Bangla.

“Using the death of our beloved Al Amin to undermine cooperation and friendly relations with India is harmful propaganda and therefore abominable,” a senior government official told Dhaka Tribune.

“Misrepresenting facts and trying to unscrupulously use a moment of profound grief for political purposes are traits of anti-liberation, fundamentalist forces,” the official said. “They are trying to undermine the efforts of the government to build a progressive and prosperous Bangladesh.”
