Bangladesh to procure 630,000 tons of fertilizer from Qatar

Purchase approval comes at 14th meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs this year

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal in principle for procuring some 630,000 tons of urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar to meet the growing demand of the country.

The approval came at the 14th meeting of the CCEA this year, held virtually on Wednesday with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Zillur Rahman Chowdhury said the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure the urea fertilizer from Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company, Muntajat under a government-to-government agreement for the next fiscal year.

The fertilizer will be brought in various lots.
