Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in central China's Henan Province and western Germany due to heavy rain and severe floods, respectively, reports BSS.
In a message sent to the Chinese state councilor and foreign minister, Wang Yi, Momen conveyed heartfelt sympathies to the members of the bereaved families.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the government and people of China. We stand by the friendly people of China as they face the situation with courage and fortitude," he said.
In a separate message sent to his German counterpart Heiko Maas, the minister similarly conveyed deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in Germany.
"Our prayers are with those who are still missing, and those who suffered injuries or loss of homes," he wrote to the German federal minister for foreign affairs.
Momen expressed the hope that with the intensive efforts launched by the German Federal and State Governments, the people affected will soon be able to overcome this difficult time.
Over the past week, dozens of people have died in floods and landslides in China and Germany that was followed by heavy rains.
At least 25 people in the central Chinese province of Henan died on Tuesday, including a dozen trapped in a city subway as waters tore through the regional capital of Zhengzhou after days of torrential rain, reports Reuters.
Coming after floods killed at least 160 people in Germany and another 31 in Belgium last week, the disaster has reinforced the message that significant changes will have to be made to prepare for similar events in future.
