Jaishankar calls Momen, agrees to hold JCC meet this month

The JCC is the highest political platform between Bangladesh and India to discuss and review all the bilateral aspects

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar called his Bangladeshi counterpart Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen over the phone on Monday and agreed to hold the sixth meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) virtually at the end of this month.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed the development through a press release while Dr Jaishankar took to his Twitter handle without any specific timeframe.

The JCC is the highest political platform between Bangladesh and India to discuss and review all the bilateral aspects. The Bangladeshi foreign minister and Indian external affairs minister co-chair the meetings.

"Warm conversation with FM Dr AK Abdul Momen of Bangladesh. Agreed to hold our Joint Consultative Commission very soon. Will continue to work closely to reach the ambitious goals set by our leaders," tweeted the Indian minister.

According to the Foreign Ministry press release, Dr Jaishankar expressed his willingness to visit Bangladesh first after the relaxation of travel restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
