The government has appointed immediate-past inspector general of police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary as the country's next ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The former IGP will replace the current ambassador, Golam Moshi, a Jatiya Party leader.
Patwary joined the government service in 1986 as a member of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police Cadre, said a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday.
He served as the police chief for two years before retiring in April.
Patwary served as a peacekeeper on UN missions in Croatia, Sierra Leone, Kosovo and Sudan. He was awarded United Nations medal in each of the missions.
