Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will be visiting Bangladesh on April 12-13 next.

President M Abdul Hamid was apprised of this visit by High Commissioner of Brunei to Bangladesh Haji Haris bin Othman as he paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Sunday evening.

It will be the first ever visit to Bangladesh of any Brunei’s Sultan, the monarchial head of state and head of government, reports BSS.

During the meeting, the president expressed his satisfaction over the confirmation of the visit of the Brunei Sultan, President Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told the news agency after the meeting.

President Hamid told the envoy: “The Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh and its people are eagerly waiting to welcome the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam here.”

The head of the state hoped that the visit of the sultan in Dhaka would help make existing commerce and investment relations from bilateral shape to multilateral ones.

Both the president and the high commissioner discussed further enhancing the level of cooperation between Bangladesh and Brunei.

Abdul Hamid said: “The existing ties between Bangladesh and Brunei is excellent,” Abedin added.

Referring to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Brunei last year, the president said it has taken the relations of the two countries to a new height.

The high commissioner informed the president about different aspects of the upcoming visit of the sultan.

Secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban and foreign ministry officials concerned were present there.
