Indian Minister for External Affairs to visit Bangladesh

The tentative dates for his visit are August 20-21

Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will visit Bangladesh next month.

The two sides are working to finalize things. The tentative dates for his visit are August 20 and 21.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen described Jaishankar’s forthcoming visit to Bangladesh as a courtesy trip.

Talking to a small group of reporters at his office on Monday, the Foreign Minister said the Indian External Affairs Minister has already accepted his invitation to visit Bangladesh.

Dr Momen said he will perform Hajj this year and is likely to remain out of the country from August 5 to 17.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Syed Muazzem Ali, recently met Jaishankar at his office in New Delhi and discussed various issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Muazzem conveyed the Bangladesh Foreign Minister's invitation to visit Bangladesh, to his Indian counterpart.

Responding to a question, Dr Momen also said they are working to expedite and streamline the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by bringing changes at different levels.

He also talked about top-level changes at a number of Bangladesh missions abroad, including in Tokyo, Beijing, and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations.

Dr Momen said they are also promoting junior officials to boost the working spirit of the younger generation of foreign service employees.
