PM Hasina accorded guard of honour in India

Update : 08 Apr 2017, 02:13 PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been given a guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent drawn from three services of the Indian Armed Forces. The national anthems of two countries were played at that time. Sheikh Hasina then inspected the guard and took salute. The prime minister, now in New Delhi on a four-day official visit, was accorded a warm ceremonial reception by Indian Premier Narendra Modi at the Forecourt of Rastrapati Bhaban Saturday morning. Narendra Modi received Sheikh Hasina on her arrival at the presidential palace around 9:15am, reports BSS. A horse mounting team of the Indian President's Body Guards escorted the PM's motorcade from the Rastrapati Bhaban gate to the Forecourt. Then the Indian prime minister introduced his cabinet colleagues to Sheikh Hasina at the presentation line. The Bangladesh premier also introduced her entourage members to Modi. Sheikh Hasina arrived in India Friday on a four-day state visit at an invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. The visit, which has been postponed twice before, comes seven years after Hasina’s last state visit to India in January 2010 and almost two years after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh in June 2015. During this trip, Bangladesh and India may sign around 35 deals and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on trade and commerce, economy and connectivity. The visit is also politically important as Hasina is visiting the neighbours at a time when political parties in Bangladesh are gearing up for the next general election scheduled in 2019. This is Hasina’s first visit to India after her party came to power in 2014.
