Mamata to visit Delhi during PM Hasina’s trip

Update : 06 Apr 2017, 01:59 AM
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to head for new Delhi on April 7, putting her in the city at the same time as Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Mamata’s inflexibility has long stood in the way of negotiations between India and Bangladesh regarding the Teesta water issue. “West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has finally responded positively to the invitation extended by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan. She is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi there,” said a source in the chief minister’s office Wednesday, on strict condition of anonymity. Mamata will leave for Delhi on April 7, while Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming Delhi visit shall take place from April 7-10. The West Bengal chief minister will also reportedly attend a lunch and dinner hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee himself on April 8. Sources further claimed that though Mamata maintains her stance on Teesta, she has no objection to holding dialogue to find an amicable solution to the issue. Mamata will call on the Rashtrapati Bhavan with due respect for Sheikh Hasina, with whom she shares a good rapport, sources said.
