Newly-appointed Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has recently thanked Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after she congratulated him on his appointment.
Morrison made the statement in a press release from the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh on September 1.
In the press release, Morrison noted the strength and depth of the relationship between the two countries, and hailed the 11% growth of bilateral trading last year.
He also praised the close cooperation of the two countries in counter-terrorism and tackling transnational crime.

Morrison also congratulated Bangladesh’s leadership on responding to the Rohingya crisis, mentioning that Australia has contributed over $70 million in humanitarian relief such as food, shelter, and other essential services.
Lauding the valuable contribution the roughly 49,000 people of Bangladeshi descent have made to Australian society, he expressed the hope for a stronger bilateral relationship between the two countries.
