Indian foreign secretary arrives in Dhaka

Indian Foreign Secretary Dr S Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon for a brief visit. Citing a senior government official, UNB reported that Jaishankar arrived at 2:25pm directly from Beijing where he had a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. He will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Jatiya Shangsad Bhaban at 5pm. Jaishankar is here at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque. The two foreign secretaries will hold a meeting at a city hotel in the evening and will review the areas of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. They are also expected to discuss the issues of mutual interest and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s proposed New Delhi visit in details. The Indian foreign secretary is also likely to meet Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali before wrapping up his less than 24-hour visit. He will leave Dhaka on Friday morning.
