India sends back four Bangladeshi women after two years

Update : 18 Feb 2017, 01:17 AM
The four women were brought back into the country via travel permits at around 4pm, on Friday. Two years ago, in the hopes of finding good employment, the four women had illegally entered Kolkata, India. While they were illegally engaged as household help in different houses there, police detained them. Later, a shelter called “Shonglap” had the women released into their custody. The women, Ferdousi Begum (23) and three minors, are originally from different areas of Comilla, Bagerhat, Narail and Jhenaidah. Bangladesh National Woman Lawyers’ Association Coordinator Muhit Hossain said the home ministries of the two countries provided “special travel permits” which allowed these women to be sent back by India. Benapole checkpost Immigration Police OC Iqbal Ahmed said the four women had been handed over at the Benapole port police station and after their paperwork was completed, they would be given over to their families.
