Bangladesh has lost to Kazakhstan in the election for the post of OIC Assistant Secretary General for science and technology.
Bangladesh got six votes out of 18 while Kazakhstan won 12 votes in the election held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Sunday where the 45th OIC foreign minister conference is taking place.
Kamrul Ahsan, secretary (bilateral and consular) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, vied for the post of assistant secretary general for science and technology for the Asia group of OIC.
The 45th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (OIC-CFM) began in Dhaka on Saturday with a special focus on the Rohingya issue, and other challenges facing the Muslim Ummah.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the two-day event at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the morning.
This year's theme is "Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development."
This is the second time that Bangladesh is hosting a CFM after holding the first in 1983, the official said.
