BGB chief: Border killings are never acceptable

Update : 09 Jan 2018, 11:54 PM
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is constantly pressing India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to put an end to the killing of people at the Bangladesh-India border, BGB Director General Maj Gen Abul Hossain said on Tuesday. “From the humanistic ground, gunning down of people at the border is unacceptable to anyone. Killing people can never ensure peace. That is why we are mounting pressure on the BSF to stop border killings,” he said at a winter clothes distribution program in Patgram upazila, Lalmonirthat. “The BGB and the BSF have jointly taken an initiative to introduce digital border management system to ensure no more gunning down of innocent people at the border. Some border zones have already been declared crime-free zones,” he said. Abul added that the digital system – “smart border management” – had been introduced at different land ports, including Hili, and it would also be installed in all the border points around the country gradually to ensure security. “Smuggling and other criminal activities are not something that only happens at India-Bangladesh border. Its a common issue for the whole world. The DG-level discussion between the countries is continuing with the intent to solve this crisis. Discussions have also been held at the field level,” he said.
