In a letter on Wednesday, Ali said the two countries have been working together for decades on issues of mutual interests, reports our sister concern the Bangla Tribune. He said he hoped the Dhaka-Washington relations would be strengthened and reach new heights under Tillerson's leadership. Tillerson, 64, the former chairman and chief executive of Exxon Mobil, was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday in a 56-to-43 vote to become the country’s 69th secretary of state, according to Reuters. He was sworn in by Vice President Mike Pence in the Oval Office in the presence of President Donald Trump. Greeting him, Trump said Tillerson understood the assignments of an American diplomat and would be working to “strengthen our alliances and form new alliances to enhance our strategic interests and the safety of our people.” In a speech following the swearing-in ceremony, Tillerson thanked Trump for assigning him to the post of the US secretary of state. Meanwhile, former US secretaries of state John Kerry and Hillary Clinton had visited Bangladesh.
