Fareena Arshad, second secretary (political) in Pakistan High Commission, has left Dhaka on Wednesday amid allegation over her involvement in militant activities in Bangladesh, according to diplomatic sources.
“Yes, she left Dhaka by a Pakistan International Airlines flight that took off at 1:35pm,” an official at the airport immigration police told UNB preferring anonymity.
A foreign ministry official, requesting anonymity, told Dhaka Tribune that the Pakistan High Commission had notified them that she would leave Dhaka today [Wednesday].

When asked if she had been withdrawn from the high commission, the official said the ministry had no knowledge about it.
“The foreign ministry did not instruct the high commission to withdraw her. It was the decision of the Pakistan government to transfer her somewhere else,” he added.
In January of this year, another Pakistan high commission official was sent back to home as the foreign ministry instructed the high commission to withdraw him.
“We have sufficient evidence against him and that’s why, we instructed the high commission to withdraw him.”
But in the case of Fareena, no government agency provided any evidence. There were only media reports against her, he continued.
The Pakistani diplomat has been working in Bangladesh for about three years.
Fareena’s involvement with militant organisations was reported in the media based on information given by JMB members.
On November 29, the DB police arrested four JMB members including a Pakistani national named Idris Sheikh from the capital. Fareena’s name came when Idris made confessional statement before a Dhaka court.
Later, the Pakistan High Commission, Dhaka condemned local media reports regarding one of its officials’ militant connection as “utterly baseless.”
