Pankaj: India's policy towards Bangladesh remains same

Update : 12 Dec 2015, 01:20 PM

India's foreign policy toward Bangladesh has reminded the same even after the change of the government in New Delhi, said outgoing Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran.

Pankaj made the statement while talking to journalists on Saturday before his departure to Moscow as its new envoy.

Noting that the January 5 election was a constitutional requirement, he added: “India has been working with the present government of Bangladesh since it assumed the office.”

India is ready to help Bangladesh to develop its institutions in order to strengthen democracy in the country.

India Friday appointed its current High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran as its new envoy to Russia.

Saran has been serving as India's envoy to Bangladesh since 2012, while he earlier served in Dhaka from 1989 to 1992 as the first secretary.

Earlier reports suggested Saran would be replaced by Harsh Vardhan Shringla, currently Indian ambassador to Thailand.
