The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of Bangladesh, represented by the Attorney General’s Office, signed an MoU on Monday to continue their collaboration on justice and rule of law reforms.
The agreement includes the Legal Internship Program 2025–2026, which aims to strengthen legal research capacity and develop a new generation of skilled law graduates.
Md Asaduzzaman, the attorney general for Bangladesh and Stefan Liller, resident representative of UNDP Bangladesh, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Earlier, AGO, in partnership with UNDP, launched the inaugural AGO Internship Program 2025 on October 14 at the Attorney General’s Office, Supreme Court.
The first cohort of the program is already underway, with 25 fresh law graduates from four universities currently placed at the Attorney General’s Office. These interns are receiving direct guidance from experienced lawyers and participating in daily legal processes within the Supreme Court premises.
The partnership aligns with UNDP’s commitment to advancing the rule of law, human rights, access to justice, and effective public institutions under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and the UNDP Country Programme Document (CPD).
Under the MoU, Bangladesh Attorney General’s Office will host, and mentor selected law graduates for up to six months per cohort, providing hands-on experience to legal research, courtroom proceedings, and professional ethics. A core committee will guide the programme’s learning objectives, ensuring that interns are grounded in principles of justice, ethics, and public service.
UNDP Bangladesh will support the initiative through technical assistance, training sessions, and exposure opportunities focusing on rule of law, human rights, gender justice, and professional conduct. UNDP will also collaborate with the AGO and participating universities to ensure smooth coordination and high-quality implementation.
This partnership marks a significant step toward nurturing legal excellence in Bangladesh by bridging academic learning with practical, institutions-based experience which will empower young graduates to contribute meaningfully to a just and equitable society.
