Around 150 autistic children and adolescents took part in the 2-week long Eid Handicrafts Fair that began in the city on Tuesday at Autism Welfare Foundation (AWF).
On the occasion, the annual fair was organized by the specialized school Kanon of the foundation at AWF’s permanent campus in Bosila, Keraniganj.
The students participated in the event spontaneously with their teachers and parents.
The fair was inaugurated by the Chairman of Runner Group of Companies Hafizur Rahman Khan.
Rudaba Tazin, group director of Runner Group of Companies, attended as special guest.
Founder Chairperson and Chief Adviser Dr Rownak Hafiz, Chairperson Professor Dr Sharmeen Yasmeen, Vice Chairperson and acting principal Ar Anika Tabassum, and Treasurer Professor Sabrina Ishrat were among those who spoke at the inaugural session of the fair.
They emphasized the need for more up-to-date vocational and adult activity training to support the development of these special students.
They urged everyone to visit the fair to appreciate the talent of these special children.
Parents of the students, teachers and officials of the institution were also present at the event.
A number of craft works were exhibited, including paintings, handmade showpieces, ethnic clothing, Eid greetings card, home organization articles, jewelries and other decorative items made and tinted by the autistic children.

Autism Welfare Foundation (AWF) has been working with special children with autism spectrum disorder since 2004.
A part of the institution’s educational program involves vocational training and adult activity.
Students above 12 years of age are brought under this program, where they learn to be self-reliant and independent with their skills.
The fair will continue till March 18th, between 10am and 3pm (except Fridays and Saturdays) at the AWF permanent campus in Bosila, Keraniganj.
