Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force will be reformed into a more efficient, well-organized, and professional force.
He made these remarks at the basic training parade for the 40th BCS (Ansar) Cadre Officers and the 25th Batch (Male) Recruit Sepoy at the Bangladesh Ansar VDP Academy in Safipur, Gazipur, on Wednesday.
The adviser added that the Ministry of Home Affairs will take all necessary steps to achieve this transformation.
Speaking on the occasion, the adviser highlighted the historical role of Ansar forces, noting their patriotism and contributions in critical moments since the country’s independence.
"Ansar has played a significant role in maintaining law and order and contributing to the overall development of the country," he said.
He also acknowledged the force’s critical role in securing important national installations and diplomatic zones.
Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) further commended the Ansar and Village Defence Force members for their dedication during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, particularly in protecting key facilities, including police stations, airports, and traffic systems.
He highlighted the contributions of the Ansar Guard Battalion, who have provided internal security at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) stations and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He noted that since the present government assumed office, Ansar Guard Battalion members have also been safeguarding the State Guest House Jamuna, despite a shortage of police personnel.
He extended heartfelt thanks to the entire force for their courageous efforts in times of national need.
The adviser also praised the volunteer Village Defence Party (VDP) members for maintaining peace and order in rural areas, particularly during recent social security crises.
He acknowledged their role in protecting religious harmony, especially by standing against those spreading communal violence and safeguarding temples, churches, and other places of worship.
He expressed hope that the VDP members will continue to play a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development and social security.
Later, the advisor took the salute at the parade and distributed awards among the top-performing trainees.
