The fourth annual International Weavers Festival has showcased a unique effort to revive traditional woven crafts of Bangladesh in contemporary fashion outfits.
Organised by TS Events in Dhaka on February 22, the event sought to promote empowerment of weavers by presenting different types of traditional woven crafts of Bangladesh through new ideas and stunning designs to make it more appealing and popular to the modern generation, said a press release.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, attended the event as chief guest while State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, was the guest of honour.

With Tootli Rahman’s celebration of artistic impressions on traditional woven crafts, this year, upcoming designer Seema Hamid, brilliantly showcased how traditional Benarasi can be revived in contemporary, fashionable outfits.
Tootli Rahman’s designs focused on infusing art with traditional woven materials, while Seema Hamid presented unique designs emphasizing unlimited trendy uses of traditional materials.
Seema’s designs showed that Benarasi can be used in many different contemporary outfits, keeping its traditional grace intact.

At the event, designers said the challenge against the backdrop of a fast changing globalized world, was to promote, preserve, and sustain the many weaving methods deeply rooted in one’s respective cultures, added the release.
The materials used for the 2020 International Weavers Festival are Bangladeshi Khadi, silk, cotton, muslin, Mirpur Benarasi, and Jamdani.
Additionally, the show included painting impressions of famous artists Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Ekushe Podok recipient artist Jamal Ahmed, Folk Art, Poth Chitro, Rickshaw Art, and Paintings of Old Town, among others.
For the first time, Bridal Collections has come forward with its unique presentation of new trends in Mirpur Benarasi attires.
The International Weavers Festival works to support talented weavers and encourages them to continue weaving and to pass on their expertise and art to the next generation.
