Speakers  have urged the government to make the cervical cancer vaccine available.

The speakers said if we can provide vaccine for 9 to 13 year-old women, it will work effectively to prevent cervical cancer.

The speakers suggested the idea in a discussion program organised by Marie Stopes Bangladesh titled “Cervical Cancer Screening and Management Services for Rohingya Refugees” at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) New Building Conference Hall on Thursday.

Marie Stopes Bangladesh is working on a cervical cancer feasibility study and treatment-related project in Cox's Bazar on Rohingya women who have taken shelter with the assistance of DGHS, UNFPA and OGSB.

Project Director Dr Reena Yasmin said they finished four-month project on cervical cancer feasibility study and treatment related project.

There are around 13 lakh  Rohingya shelters in Bangladesh, where 52%  are women . Among them, the breeding age limit is 23.2%.

She also said of the three of 31 Rohingya camps, Marie Stopes Bangladesh has provided cervical cancer screening service for 6165 women.

133 have been identified as cervical cancer patients. The cervical cancer screening service they provided is 2.67%.

“The demand is very low. So there are opportunities and requirements to work on. We want to cooperate with other government and non-government organizations to prevent cervical cancer,” she added.
