Zonta Club Dhaka to award three individuals marking centennial anniversary

The awards will be given out at the International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day program marking the 100 years anniversary, at the Six Seasons Hotel in Dhaka’s Gulshan

Zonta Club Dhaka has decided to award three individuals – Kumar Bishwajit Barman, Najmun Nahar, and Bonna Mirza – for their exceptional accomplishments and contributions in the field of women’s empowerment on Friday.

The awards will be given out at the International Women’s Day and Zonta Rose Day program marking the 100 years anniversary, at the Six Seasons Hotel in Dhaka’s Gulshan.

The Centennial Anniversary Award will be presented to Kumar Bishwajit Barman for preventing 1,000 child marriages across the country; the Rose Day Encouragement Award to Najmun Nahar, a Bangladeshi-Swede who has visited 105 countries with the Bangladesh flag; and the Motivation Award will be presented to Bonna Mirza, for her work as a celebrity and a social activist.

Zontian Dilruba Ahmed will be present as chief guest. Dignitaries, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and professionals from different sectors will be also attend the ceremony.

The organization has been empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy.

Beginning its journey in Bangladesh in 2012, the club has been working to empower leprosy-affected women by providing them with training and skills, rehabilitating trafficking victims, and aiming to end child marriage through Ashar Alo Pathshala.

For the centennial anniversary of Zonta International, the club is undertaking a signature project called “Stop Child Marriage.” 

Zonta International is a non-partisan international organization, founded in 1919, that boasts 30,000 members in 1,200 clubs across 63 countries.
