The annual international open waters marathon swimming competition titled “14th Fortune Bangla Swimming 2019” is set to be held on March 21.
Every year swimmers take part in this international event in the Bangla Channel of the Bay of Bengal, a sea route from the Teknaf fisheries jetty to the Saint Martin's Island jetty at a distance of 16.1 kilometres.
“The annual event is being organized for the last 13 years, promoting sports adventure and aiming to introduce this channel internationally.
“Healthy sports and adventures can play a vital role in protecting the youth,” organizers said at the press conference held at the business faculty of Dhaka University on Friday.
A trio of swimmers pioneered the crossing on January 14, 2006, including Lipton Sarker, Fazlul Kabir Sina, and Salman Saeed.
Shwaroz Adventure and Extreme Bangla are set to organize the 14th of this event in association with Bangladesh Tourism Board and Bangladesh Tourism Corporation.
While Fortune is the title sponsor, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation and Dhaka University are supporting the event as partners.
