Corporate leaders and activists have come together at a TEDxYouth programat ScholasticaSchool to speak about the economic potential of the country, disseminate information and ideas to the youth, and motivate them to take their own initiatives in building better lives for themselves.
Scholastica School organized the event at its senior campus in Dhaka’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Light Castle Partners LtdCEO Bijon Islam urged the youth to participate in building a more inclusive economy, and focus on the agro-processing sector and solve the unemployment problem.
“The remarkable economic growth in Bangladesh has not been inclusive, as the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer,” he said.
Bijon further said the pharmaceutical industry can help boost the economy by taking advantage of the country's LDC (least developed countries) status which exempts Bangladesh from obligations to implement patents and data protection for pharmaceutical products until 2033.
Activist and North South University Lecturer Maliha Rahnaz told the young participants that having low self-esteem is a big obstacle in life and how they should deal with it.
Pathao Vice President Ahmed Fahad explained how Pathao had not only created a digital ride sharing service, but also revolutionized the transport industry of Bangladesh by popularizing the culture of carpooling.
Informing attendees about the potential of artificial intelligence (AI), Gaze Technologies Ltd CEO Shehzad Noor Taus explained how technology could be used to promote safer streets in the country.
Harriken Founder and CEO Adeeb Shams informed youngsters on how society shapes people's lives and how they can decide their own paths themselves.
Lighthouse Bangladesh CEO and Bangladesh Cancer Aid Foundation President Najmus Ahmed Albab also spoke at the event.
TEDx Youth also arranged three interactive sessions for attendees to meet and talk with the speakers.
