The Election Commission (EC) will publish the updated final voter list for the upcoming local government elections on August 31 after completing the voter list revision process.
The commission has already instructed all upazila and thana election officers, along with registration officers across the country, to carry out the necessary tasks, according to a letter signed by EC Senior Assistant Secretary Md Nasir Uddin Chowdhury on Thursday.
According to the letter, individuals born on or before July 31, 2008, who have been or will be registered in the voter database by July 31, will be included in the updated final voter list.
The EC has also approved a detailed schedule for preparing and publishing the draft voter list, receiving claims, objections and correction applications, disposing of those applications, and publishing the updated final voter list.
Under the schedule, the PDF version of the updated draft voter list must be prepared and its link sent to the respective registration officers by August 4. The draft voter list will be published on August 9.
Claims, objections and correction applications may be submitted until August 24. These applications must be disposed of by August 27, with the decisions incorporated into the voter list by August 28 before the updated final voter list is published on August 31.
The letter also directed the authorities concerned to publicize the draft voter list and encourage citizens to inspect the printed copies and apply for corrections if they identify any errors.
As part of the awareness campaign, the authorities have been instructed to make announcements through imams and priests before and after prayers at mosques, temples and other places of worship. They have also been asked to disseminate the information through local journalists and cable operators.
