Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with the newly appointed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, following the oath-taking ceremony of the prime minister and the new government.
During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu congratulated PM Tarique Rahman and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on their victory in the 13th Parliamentary Election held on February 12.
He reaffirmed the Maldives government’s commitment to work closely with Bangladesh to further strengthen the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed his appreciation for the President’s presence at the oath-taking ceremony. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation across trade and investment, health, environmental collaboration, higher education, and air connectivity.
This visit marks President Dr Muizzu’s first official visit to Bangladesh. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh were established on September 22, 1978.
