Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has won the Dhaka-15 parliamentary seat.

The result was announced on Friday morning at the Election Commission’s result collection and dissemination center.

Shafiqur Rahman secured 85,131 votes. His nearest rival, Shafiqul Islam Khan of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), received 63,517 votes. He won by a margin of 21,614 votes.

On Thursday evening, Jamaat alleged irregularities in the counting process in the Dhaka-15 constituency. While results from other Dhaka constituencies were being received by the Election Commission, the announcement of the Dhaka-15 result was reportedly delayed for a considerable time.

The Dhaka-15 constituency has 351,718 registered voters, including 179,616 men and 172,098 women. There are also four registered third-gender voters.

Eight candidates contested the seat: Shafiqur Rahman (Dari Palla), Shafiqul Islam Khan (Sheaf of Paddy), Shamsul Haque (Plough), Ahammad Sazedul Haque (Sickle), Khan Shoaib Aman Ullah (Pen), Mobarak Hossain (Ektara), Ashfakur Rahman (Motor Car) and Nilav Parvez (Butterfly).
