Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Thursday alleged that there have been attempts to cast fake votes in different parts of the country.
He urged the people to guard their respective polling stations until the results were announced to protect the people's right to vote.
The Jamaat Ameer made this call in a status posted on his verified Facebook page on Thursday afternoon.
Rahman claimed that polling agents have been attacked, and women harassed at different places. In some places, attempts were also made to capture polling centres.
Addressing the people, the Jamaat Ameer wrote: “Since yesterday (Wednesday), you have defeated all the rumors and resisted the evil attempts and conspiracies to seize the polling stations. Since this morning, you have voted like a festival, immersed in the dream of establishing justice. However, we are observing with concern that attempts are being made to cast fake votes in different parts of the country. Polling agents are being attacked and injured in different places. Women are being harassed. In several places, there were also ill attempts to seize the centers.”
“We would like to request the countrymen, just as you have resisted the evil attempts to steal votes and seize the centres so far, protect your votes until the results are out so that no one can snatch your precious vote. You should guard the polling stations and cooperate with the law enforcement agencies.”
Calling on the law enforcement agencies, the Jamaat Ameer further wrote: "I would like to request the administration, including the law enforcement agencies, that you have tried very sincerely so far to maintain a fair electoral environment. However, the countrymen feel that more immediate action is needed. We can see that some are involved in a conspiracy to occupy the centres, and steal ballots. I strongly urge you to suppress this conspiracy with a strong hand. Protect the people's vote deposit."
