A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the validity of BNP-nominated candidate Dr MA Quayum’s candidacy in the Dhaka-11 constituency, alleging dual citizenship and concealment of information.

The writ was filed by Nahid Islam, candidate of the multi-party alliance in Dhaka-11 and convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), on Monday. The petition seeks to suspend Dr Quayum’s candidacy.

Advocates Zahirul Islam Musa and Ali Azgar Sharifi, among others, are representing Nahid Islam in the case.

Advocate Zahirul Islam Musa said the High Court is expected to hear the writ petition later this week.

Earlier, the Election Commission declared the nomination papers of BNP-nominated candidate Dr MA Quayum, who also serves as the party’s secretary for microfinance affairs, valid.
