Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Mohammad Shafiqul Alam said voters affiliated with the Awami League will turn out and vote for candidates of their choice in the upcoming election.
“Many ask what Awami League voters will do when they go to polling centers. Awami League voters will come and vote for their preferred candidates,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views with journalists at the Brahmanbaria Press Club on Friday afternoon.
The press secretary said Awami League supporters had been unable to vote freely for the last 15 and a half years, claiming that police cast votes on their behalf during that period. However, he said, a credible election is now expected with international support and without any doubt.
“Where is this doubt coming from? From YouTube, from TikTok. Some people, just to gain views, say things like, ‘Let’s see whether an election even happens.’ The election will be held properly. Inshallah, no one has the ability to sabotage this election,” he said.
Shafiqul also said there was no foreign pressure regarding the election. He added that no one was advocating on behalf of the Awami League, which he accused of past abuses, including branding protesters as militants.
The exchange meeting was chaired by Brahmanbaria Press Club President Javed Rahim Bijan.
Brahmanbaria Additional Deputy Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Dey, Additional Superintendent of Police Obaidur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Shahidul Islam were present at the time, among tohers.
The event was moderated by Brahmanbaria Press Club Office Secretary Farhadul Islam Parvez.
