Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as charmonai pir, has said, “We too are deeply saddened by the death of Begum Khaleda Zia. However, excessive reactions are being observed over this issue. The administration appears to be leaning towards a particular side, which is creating the risk of a one-sided election.”
He made these remarks on Friday (9 January) in the afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange-of-views meeting organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Khulna Metropolitan and District units at the auditorium of Jamia Rashidia Goalkhali Madrasa in Khulna.
Mufti Rezaul Karim said, “As the election date draws nearer, a vicious group has become active within the country. They are attempting to severely obstruct a fair electoral environment by creating fear among the public. To this end, they are spreading panic and resorting to violence. We urge the administration and law enforcement agencies to increase surveillance against these murderous groups and to ensure prompt and proper investigation and justice in these incidents.”
He further said, “There is little visible initiative to recover looted money and illegal weapons. The balance of a level playing field is being disrupted. Some leaders are receiving special attention and VIP protocol. Public opinion is being influenced in a particular direction through misleading surveys.”
The meeting was presided over by Mufti Amanullah, President of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Khulna Metropolitan, and parliamentary candidate for Khulna-2, and was conducted by Metropolitan Secretary Mufti Imran Hossain.
Special guests included the party’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and parliamentary candidate for Khulna-3, Hafez Mawlana Principal Abdul Awal, and Khulna District President Professor Mawlana Abdullah Imran.
