Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Friday said a complete level playing field exists in Bangladesh’s ongoing election process, asserting that the overall environment remains favorable.
“We believe there is a completely level playing field in the election. The environment is still quite good. Candidates are going door to door seeking votes, and the election mood is visible everywhere,” he told reporters during a visit to the Shibbari Temple on AB Guha Road in Mymensingh city.
Addressing concerns raised by certain quarters, Shafiqul Alam said there was no visible evidence to support claims of an uneven playing field.
“This platform is the same for both big and small parties. No one has been treated unfairly,” he said.
He also dismissed allegations that the administration is favoring any particular political party, saying some people may have misunderstood the declaration of state mourning following the death of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
“She was not only a BNP leader but a national leader. That is why state mourning was observed,” he explained.
Reiterating the government’s position, the press secretary said all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a fair electoral process and that no bias has been shown toward any political party.
During his visit, Shafiqul Alam also visited several shrines in the city, including Bura Pir’s Mazar and the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah (R), and condemned attacks on religious sites.
He said Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony where people of all faiths must respect one another, adding that police morale has improved and security at mazars has been strengthened.
