BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will complete the process of becoming a registered voter on December 27, BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission.
Salahuddin said December 25 and 26 falls on Thursday and Friday respectively, while Saturday, December 27, will be a working day for the Election Commission during the election period.
“On that day, he will complete all formalities related to voter registration, including obtaining a voter ID and national identity card,” he said.
He added that issues related to nomination papers were also discussed during the meeting. “It was mentioned that a certified copy of bail release would have to be submitted with the nomination papers. However, such a requirement is not mentioned in the Representation of the People Order (RPO). We asked the commission to clarify this and stated that a certified copy should not be required,” he said.
Speaking about the law and order situation, Salahuddin said ensuring security is the responsibility of the government.
“We want a fair election environment. The people also want to cast their votes freely in a festive atmosphere. We hope the law and order situation will gradually improve,” he added.
