Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed has said the country is now “in the election tide” and that everyone wants “the best election of the century.”
He made the remarks while speaking as special guest at a training program for journalists ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election at the Election Training Institute (ETI) in Agargaon, Dhaka on Wednesday.
Akhtar Ahmed said organizing the election and the referendum simultaneously was a major undertaking, adding that both processes complement each other.
Responding to questions about the referendum having four questions but only one answer, he said the advisory council had noted that political parties often present 20-point manifestos, and people may not agree with every point but consider the package as a whole.
“The same applies to the referendum. You will vote after considering the entire package,” he added.
ETI Director General Mahmood Hasanuzzaman chaired the program, which was also attended by Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
