Home Affairs Adviser Lt. General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that preparations for the election will be completed by December.
However, the exact date of the election is not yet known; it will be announced by the Election Commission.
He made these remarks on Saturday while speaking to journalists after inspecting the Dhaka District Police Lines, Range Reserve Force (RRF), and Traffic and Driving School (TDS) at the Mill Barracks in Old Dhaka.
Regarding the Mitford murder case, the adviser said those involved are being brought under the law. "The Mitford killing is very tragic. So far, five people have been brought under the law in connection with the incident. The Detective Branch is working to bring the remaining suspects to justice," he added.
The adviser also noted: "We have become increasingly intolerant. This situation can only be resolved through everyone’s cooperation. The suspects involved in the murder of Lalchand Sohag are being arrested. It is the police’s job to hand them over to the law. Ensuring a speedy trial is the responsibility of the court."
Urging the public, he said: "No one should take the law into their own hands. If any incident occurs, it should be reported to law enforcement. They will take appropriate legal action."
Regarding allegations of inaction by law enforcement agencies, the adviser stated: "Law enforcement is not indifferent. Whenever they receive information, they arrest the criminals. In some cases, it might take a little time."
