Nahid: No election before justice ensured, reforms made

Nahid Islam urges immediate declaration of July charter and its implementation by August 5

Update : 10 Jul 2025, 06:12 PM

Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said no election will be accepted until a July charter is announced, killers of the July uprising are brought to justice, and reforms are carried out.

"The July movement is not over yet. The struggle will continue until the people’s demands are met,” Nahid announced on Thursday at a rally in Magura, held as part of the NCP’s July march.

He added: “Students and the public will not accept any election before a July charter is announced. First, the fascist (Sheikh) Hasina and the Awami League must be held accountable. If there is any attempt to hold elections before trial for the killers, reforms, and the declaration of the July charter, a mass movement will rise again. Our movement will continue until the perpetrators are brought to justice.”

“The July charter must be declared immediately. We want its implementation by August 5. A rally will be held in Dhaka on August 3 to press home this demand.”

Earlier, the NCP's July march reached Magura from Jhenaidah at 1:30pm.

The procession paraded through Magura town.

Besides Nahid Islam, central NCP leaders, including Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Samanta Sharmin, and Tasnim Jara participated in the march. It ended with a brief rally at Vaina Mor in Magura.

Later, the NCP leaders met with families of those killed and injured in the July uprising at the Magura district auditorium before heading toward Narail to continue the march.
