Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin held a meeting with a five-member delegation from Turkey, which included three former election commissioners from the country, on Tuesday.

The meeting took place at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, where four other election commissioners were also present.

Speaking about the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Election Commission, KM Ali Nawaz, described it as a courtesy visit.

Among the five delegates, three were former Turkish parliamentarians, one was a lawyer, and the other a representative from the Turkish Embassy.

He said: “The delegation had already held meetings with various government agencies, and this visit was part of that engagement. During the meeting, we discussed our plans, what we can do, and how the election-related matters of both countries could lead to mutual experience sharing. We explored ways to cooperate in improving the election process and ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections.”

The Turkish delegation assured their advisory support for organizing credible elections.

“We inquired about how their election system has become so exemplary, asked various questions, and received their responses,” he added.

The discussions also focused on identifying differences between the election systems of the two countries and ways to enhance Bangladesh’s election process.

The CEC expressed hope for their opinions on ensuring people's voting rights and organizing flawless elections.

Notably, the delegation was not an official government group but rather a team representing an NGO that works on election and human rights issues.
