A former Chhatra League leader named Omar Faruq Fardeen took a selfie inside a polling booth with a marked ballot and posted it on Facebook.
The incident occurred at a polling centre in Rajshahi's Paba upazila on Wednesday morning.
Fardeen entered the booth to cast his vote at Koira Government Primary School polling station.
Despite the prohibition on bringing mobile phones into polling stations, he managed to do so.
He then took a selfie with the ballot inside the booth and posted the picture on his Facebook profile. The post was later removed.
The photo showed Fardeen holding a ballot stamped with the pineapple symbol. The symbol represents district Awami League's former office secretary Faruq Hossain Dablu, who is contesting for the post of chairman. The incident has caused a sensation in the area.
Upazila Election Returning Officer and Rajshahi Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sarkar Asim Kumar said that the matter has come to his attention and that efforts are underway to locate Fardeen. The accused will be brought under the law.
