Mohiuddin Ahmed has unofficially won the mayor's post in Patuakhali municipal polls by a significant margin.
District Senior Election Officer and Returning Officer Khan Abi Shahanur Khan made the unofficial announcement on Saturday evening.
As a result of a total 24 centres of nine wards, he got 21,748 votes in ‘Jug symbol’. His closest rival Dr Shafiqul Islam got 10,552 votes with Mobile symbol.
Voting through EVMs started at 8am in 24 polling stations of Patuakhali municipal and continued till 4pm.
Nine Ansar members along with one SI, two ASIs, and four policemen were deployed in each centre to ensure security.
Apart from this, 19 magistrates, three platoons of BGB, four teams of RAB and police mobile teams performed their duties for the smooth completion of the elections.
