Awami League candidate (Boat) for Manikganj-2 Momotaz Begom, now a former MP, has accused the winning independent candidate (Truck) of securing victory with fraudulent votes of immigrants and dead people, saying she will take legal action in this regard.

She was speaking at a views-exchange meeting with party leaders and activists at her residence on Tuesday evening.

Indicating that her opponent Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tulu, treasurer of the Awami League’s district unit, gained victory as an independent candidate with the votes of BNP supporters, she said: “They have been attacking and torturing Awami League leaders and activists after my defeat in the election. They induced the defeat of Boat with black money.”

“If my opponents attack Awami League activists, take action against them,” said Momotaz.

“If anyone tries to attack or threaten you, make video records of them,” she added.

In the Manikganj-2 constituency, independent candidate (Truck) Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tulu won the election race with 84,525 votes while his nearest rival, Momotaz Begom (Boat) got 78,269 votes.

Momotaz Begom became a member of parliament from the reserved women's seat No 21 in 2008. Then she became a member lawmaker in the elections of 2014 and 2018 as an Awami League candidate from Manikganj-2.

However, she failed to secure a victory in the 12th national parliamentary election despite having the support of the Awami League.
